Because YOU demanded it, yet another batch of mini-bursts of me!
1. Are you a book lover? Do you have an unquenchable thirst for knowledge? Would you know Margaret Atwood if she passed you by? If you answered yes to any of these questions (and even if you did not, to bad) then come on down on Sunday September 25, 2011 to Word on the Street Toronto. This annual festival celebrating the written word is held every year at Queens Park in the heart of downtown Toronto. I did not go for several years, then came back with a vengeance two years ago. The experience, the exhilaration, and the sheer merriment of being in the midst of such book love feels wonderful. Not only are the deals amazing, the guest authors are incredible. Last year I talked to Wayson Choy again, and this time, who knows? Many of my friends will be in attendance, some working and some volunteering and some shopping, and I can’t wait to see them all! It will be a PARTY!!
2. My september anime pick was The Cat Returns, as suggested by my old friend Gwen. She suggested The Cat’s Back, but I think she meant this one. And quite frankly I was fascinated. This is a simple, touching tale about a lonely girl who saves a cat, then finds out the cat is a prince. The cat king wants to repay her and things go downhill from their. When she engages the help from another “cat” (you will understand when you see it) the adventure and magic escalate. The voices are enchanting, even from actors I can’t stand, and the ending is very touching. Highly recommended.
3. So Torchwood is over with and I do not give a damn. While Torchwood Children of Earth was an excellent story that kept me riveted, this season, called Miracle Day, is in serious risk of being deleted off my PVR without a moment of hesitation. The plot involved the earth suddenly changing, and no one being able to die, no matter the injury or frailty. The problem was this American co-production was senselessly dumbed down, making it insulting to fans and casual viewers. What once was a joy, became a chore to watch every week. Can Superman just fly around the earth and put a stop to this miserable mess? And yes, I am crossing the streams.
Well, another parcel of SMP for the day. Enjoy and share with your friends, your enemies, and your personal valets.
