Three Random Thoughts On Cheaper By The Dozen

It is a zippy zany comedy filled with heart.  It is kinda, sorta, based on the real story of Frank Bunker Gilbreth and Lilian Moller Gilbreth, but not really.  And this version, our introduction to this tale, stars the esteemed Steve Martin and the radiant Bonnie Hunt.  They prove that things really are Cheaper By The Dozen.

Cheaper By The Dozen is about a small town couple, who partly by deign and partly by accident, end up with an even dozen biological kids.  That alone should be enough to cause chaos on an epic scale, but when the mother goes on a book tour and the father takes a job in the big city, forcing the massive family to relocate, well, you ain’t seen disorder on this scale in quite awhile.

Besides Steve Martin and Bonnie Hunt, the cast includes the wonderful kids.  The eldest is played by the lovely Piper Perabo, next up is hunky (according to my wife) Tom Welling, followed by the charming Hilary Duff.  A wild assortment of various younger actors fill out the rest of this huge group, all topped off with a cute dog.  Keep a sharp eye out for little Liliana Mumy, who is the daughter of Will Robinson from the 1960’s show Lost In Space.

Everyone who has ever told me that Ashton Kutcher couldn’t act need only to look at The Butterfly Effect and this great movie here.  Every scene he is in is absolute gold, proving that the much maligned Ashton is being wasted on that awful show he is on now.  Ashton Rules!

Cheaper By The Dozen provides great mirth, merriment, and heart.  We have seen the classic many times over the years and have always loved it.  Steve Martin is a treasure here, and thankfully he survived these kids.  Whew!

P.S.  Cheaper By The Dozen the  movie is copyright 2012 to 20th Century Fox.
