Once you enter and cross the threshold, you are on your own. The creatures and inhabitants who populate this infernal place will come after you, find you, and cause eternal chills in your soul.
They are The Powerhouse Of Terror. And you will love every heart stopping moment of it.
My first brushes with this scare mongering group came about over the past several years, when a scaled down version of their fright house appeared at some local fairs we frequented. Every jaunt through was designed to deprive, than pulverize your senses, all masterfully using the power of fear. And if you peed yourself along the way, all the better.
Winding through the Haunted House, sometimes guided only by touching the walls, every corner, every crevice, becomes a potential place to meet an evil horror. They will literally pop up out at you. All sorts of modern scary movie tropes, mixed with classic gothic concepts, are utilized here, mixed and matched for maximum mayhem. Be prepared to catch your breath by the time (if?) you reach the end.
While we have enjoyed being terrified every single time we have dared to enter these versions, the full blown and longer epic journey has eluded us. It is not like they are hidden, or floating like a ghost over the deserted moors, it is just that we have never had the courage for the full experience.
This past few Octobers, The Powerhouse of Terror has lodged themselves into the former Lakeshore Psychiatric Hospital and expended their mission massively. From everything I have seen and heard both online and off, their endeavours in this regard have been extremely successful. Taking a building and filling it, in every nook and cranny, with even more spooky and demented terrors, sounds blood-curdling, even death defying. My mind boggles as to what these purveyors of scares do here. And that is a good thing.
Halloween is fast upon our unsuspecting souls. Scares are awaiting. And The Powerhouse Of Terror is out their, mocking you, daring you to enter. And survive.
Cue spooky music.
