Three Random Thoughts On The Little Drummer Boy

With Christmas a coming, our thoughts inevitably turn to all those delightful television specials.  The first one I am looking at here is the 1968 classic, and absolute favourite of my mother-in-law, The Little Drummer Boy.

The Story

A little boy is joyfully living his life 2,000 years ago with his parents.  Shortly after he gets a drum from them, they perish.  This turns him against humanity, until a chance encountered changes his outlook.

The Emotions

The legendary Greer Garson provides the voice over for this journey, expanding and expounding upon what our little hero is going through.  Thanks to her, we really want to hug and make everything better for our drummer hero.

The Music

All wonderful heartfelt songs fill this story.  And the best, the one bursting with emotion, is the finale performed by the Vienna Boy’s Choir.  Dare you to not tear up.

The Little Drummer Boy is a great way to start the Christmas season.  This special, spun off from a classic song, will remind you to enjoy the little things in life.
