Today on Buffy The Vampire Slayer we have The Witch, part of the excitement of My Year of Buffy! SPOILERS.
What Buffy Did!
Buffy goes to cheerleader tryouts, all in an effort to fit in. During tryouts, one cheerleader bursts into flames, signaling not all is right in Sunnydale yet again. Next up, Cordelia goes blind, which makes Buffy and the Scooby Gang suspect one of the cheerleadering hopefuls is a witch. This girl has a domineering mother who was once the most Amazing Cheerleader Ever. This evil teen casts a spell on Buffy, causing erratic behavour, which will eventually lead to death. Giles manages to break the spell, finds out that mother and daughter had switched bodies, and tries to reverse the deed. The ending has Evil Witch Mother versus Buffy The Vampire Slayer, with our heroine using brains to win the day.
Willow is quickly becoming my favourite character, showing smarts and a developing self esteem. I also am itching for Willow and Xander to get together, or back together, as the case may be. Giles really needs a life, since excitement over Hellmouths is not a top ten hobby. Buffy’s mom has now flipped from stupid to ignorant and arrogant and I really hope she vanishes soon. Willow and Xander make the best backup ever. The evil freaky friday plotline I called waaay early in the episode, but the dark dark dark Twilight Zone like ending took me by surprise.
Xander is a fount for funnies, with “One of those girls hit me really hard. We should test for steroids,” getting just the right amount of whininess. And Willow sums up everyone’s, including mine, hatred of Cordelia with “Maybe because they met her?” Buffy takes the prize this week with “She’s our Sabrina.”
This was the first one that disappointed me. Most of this was passable at best, with only the endings giving any chills or thrills.
