Now on Buffy The Vampire Slayer is Teacher’s Pet. My Year of Buffy goes on! SPOILERS as always.
What Buffy Did!
Xander has a dream sequence about his puppy love/infatuation with Buffy and wakes up in class. The old guy teacher has a private talk with Buffy about how he believes in her, which she falls for. The teacher is then killed. A sexy substitute shows up, talks alot about bugs and acts all inappropriate with the boys. Cordelia finds the old guy teacher decapitated, which sets the Scooby Gang on the case. Buffy immediately suspects the sexy sub because the local Vampires are scared of her. Xander still falls for her, is captured by her, and is almost eaten by her, all because she is really a jumbo sized Preying Mantis. But Buffy, with the help of Giles and Willow save the day. Or do they?
Dream sequences generally bother me, and this one with Xander is no exception. Your enemy being scared of your enemy is an old trope and I saw this coming a mile away. Again, I will pay good money for Cordelia and the Principal to be eaten, decapitated, or otherwise disposed of. But I do have one major gripe with this one. Why does Willow and Giles act so cavalier about Buffy’s bug information? When you are sitting on a Hellmouth, nothing is strange anymore, so stop treating Buffy like she is all crazy because of her suspicions. Also, Buffy never picks up on the implied creepiness of the old guy teacher from the beginning, something my alarm bells picked up right away.
Willow says the truth so well with the “He’s one of the only teachers who doesn’t think Buffy is a felon,” line about the old guy teacher. But if she said he was a perv, it would be even more truthful. And when Willow hears some bad news, she replies “Good point. I didn’t want to hear that,” which is kinda cute.
Again, another one that failed to impress. In fact, I actively disliked this one and hope we never see giant Preying Mantis people ever again.
