Angel is the long awaited episode of Buffy The Vampire Slayer which finally deals with the mysterious stranger. As always, SPOILERS for My Year of Buffy.
What Buffy Did!
The Master sends The Three, vicious Vampires after our favourite Slayer, who is helped in this nasty battle by Angel. After at her house, Buffy’s mom meets him, and to shelter the mysterious man, Buffy sneaks him into her room. He soon reveals his family was killed by Vampires. A day or so later, Buffy gets embarrassed when she mistakenly thinks that Angel read her diary, which chronicles her crush on him. After kissing, Angel transforms into Vampire mode and takes off, leaving a shocked Buffy. Giles tells Buffy that Angel was once a vicious killer, but is no longer for some reason. Darla then cons her way into Buffy’s house and attacks her mother, setting it up to frame Angel. While Buffy takes off after Angel, Giles learns the truth. Buffy finds Angel and he reveals how he is a Vampire, but one cursed with a soul. Darla shows up and starts blasting away with guns, but is stopped by Angel. At the end Buffy kisses Angel goodbye, and her cross burns his chest.
Lets Start With The Big One: ANGEL IS A VAMPIRE? WITH A SOUL? Holy Handgrenades Batman, I did not know this! Seriously, I knew the dude had powers and all, but I just thought he was the son of a demon or something. This really, completely and totally, took me by surprise. I actually paused the dvd and stared at the screen for like a minute, mind blown. Does Angel ever get cured of being a Vampire? Does he ever meet that gypsy family and beg forgiveness? Holy Crud! Holy Crud!! Holy Crud!! Well, now that I have caught my breathe, what else happened in this episode. Buffy’s mom is still leader of the clueless. Angel sleeping on the floor is a true gentleman. The Master is one sick, trapped Vampire. Did remember Budapest from the Avengers originate here? Seeing anyone do homework on this show is so rare. Buffy being tricked into thinking Angel bit her mom is so soap opera, felt somewhat forced. Seeing Giles and Buffy’s mom together got my spidey-sense set on romance. I really like the Buffy Angel fight because they actually talk out their problems. And then Darla, the most insane Vampire ever, all because of a spurned heart, shows up and goes all nutso. Dang, that was an ending.
Buffy sums up Angel for all these episodes so far, in a very funny and truthful way, with “Hi honey, you’re in grave danger, I’ll see you next month!” And Xander still hates the annoying Cordelia, whom I dislike as well, and gives us the following “Boy that Cordelia is a regular breath of vile air”
Except for Buffy falling for the obvious frame-up, I really dug this episode. Angel has finally gone from mysterious and annoying to fascinating and cool.
