Season two! Season two!! And we start with When She Was Bad. My look at Buffy The Vampire Slayer, as part of My Year of Buffy continues! SPOILERS!
What Buffy Did!
Willow and Xander are enjoying a quiet summer night, with the two almost kissing, when a Vampire interupts. Buffy, who was off with her dad, shows and saves the day. At home, her parents discuss Buffy and her personality change. Giles tells the Scoobies that even with the Hellmouth closed, problems will still happen. While training, Buffy has a PTSD moment, imagining The Master. Later, a nightmare she has is interrupted by Angel, warning her of the Anointed One. Not caring, she goes to school and is almost outed as a Slayer by Cordelia. Buffy’s attitude concerns her friends, which grows when the Slayer shows up at the Bronze and does a sexy dance with Xander. The Anointed One has his followers dig up The Master’s bones. Cordelia tells Buffy to get a grip, and is right after kidnapped. The Scoobies talk to Buffy about her attitude, and she tells them someone has dug up The Master. More arguing follows. While Buffy is lured away to a trap, The Scoobies are kidnapped as well. Meeting up with Angel, she realizes something is up. Back at the library, Xander warns Buffy he will kill her if Willow is hurt. To get info, Buffy tortures a Vampire, and shows up to save her friends who are being used to try to resurrect The Master. The good guys win the fight and Buffy smashes The Master’s bones, venting her frustrations. Buffy apologizes to the Scoobies and the Anointed One is pissed.
When Willow and Xander did not kiss, I almost screamed. But then I did scream, because a freaking Vampire showed up. Yes, we missed you Buffy! Calling it right now, Buffy has PTSD. Angel hanging in Buffy’s room is supposed to be sexy, but felt creepy to me. So, let me get this straight, Cordelia is not going to die, but is instead officially now a Scooby? Sigh, I really want to trust Joss on this one. Willow has to make it more obvious to the clueless Xander. Oh wait, she does! Xander is just a moron. Moody Buffy is nasty and really needs a talking to. And of all people, Cordelia gives it to her? You can smell the crazy on Principal Snyder. Vampires In The Library! Vampires In The Library! Is this even allowed? Xander continues growing the pair from The Prophecy Girl by telling Buffy off. Buffy using torture is, unsettling, to say the least. Willow and Xander are the coolest.
Willow and Xander are such a cute couple, and when he says “Do I even have to dignify that with a guess?” my inner romantic smiled. You almost feel sorry for Buffy’s parents, having no clue of her Slaying, but this line from father to mother, still made me laugh, “At least when she was burning stuff down I knew what to say.” Buffy’s complete PTSD bitch was on full force with this line to Willow, “This is Slayer stuff okay. Can we just hear a little less from the civilians.”
Buffy dealing with PTSD is fascinating. While her friends not recognizing this is understandable, Giles should have. But despite this, I still love them dealing with this topic.
