Some Assembly Required is where I am at with Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Onwards, with SPOILERS, for My Year of Buffy!
What Buffy Did!
Buffy and Angel argue about everything while on a stake-out. Then Buffy falls into a mysteriously empty grave. At school, Giles thinks this means zombies and Buffy seeks out Willow, who is signing up for the science fair. There, she meets Chris and Eric, who are creepy. The Scoobies investigate and find out who the dead girl was, while Cordelia is being stalked and is saved by Angel. And the two discover body parts. This changes the investigation off of zombies, and Chris and Eric become prime suspects very quickly. These two creepy students are in a lab, building a perfect patchwork woman, all for the rebooted Frankenstein of a teen boy. And Cordelia is their target. Giles finally asks Miss Calendar out and the school football game will be their date. The Scoobies realize the villains need a fresh head and Buffy finds their lab. Cordelia is almost kidnapped, than finally kidnapped. Buffy finds them, Xander saves Cordelia, and a fight between Slayer and Frankenstein happens. Daryl, the Frankenteen, decides to die in a fire. Everyone interacts the next day at school, with Xander being rude to Cordelia and Buffy telling Angel she is not interested in Xander.
Angel gives a completely different perspective on Vampires. Xander should write an advice column. Cordelia has gone from annoying to funny, she is almost as sarcastic as Xander. Girl talk is always better while the boys dig up corpses. Angel and Cordelia makes an interesting combination. Tension in the library! Everyone all together! And cue disgusting body parts talk. This is a tad bit overdone, with Giles being nervous over asking out the Technopagan. Okay, gross dead brother reveal. As opposed to not gross dead brother reveal. Hello, I am a crazy delusional mother. She was attacked once just a few minutes ago, why would Cordelia go get water by herself. Even she is not that stupid. And Vampire Slayer versus Frankenstein Monster is such an obvious, B Movie idea, but it still is scary goofy fun. And I am guessing Cordelia is now a permanent part of the Scoobies, and is not going to die? Do I have to prepare myself for this eventuality?
Buffy and Angel argue in a graveyard, which is where every potential couple should quarrel, and our Slayer tells off her favourite Vampire with this bit, “I didn’t come here to fight. Oh, right I did.” And later when Giles is being Giles, Buffy tries to gently bring him back to Sunnydale’s version of reality with, “I knew you meant to say gross and disturbing.”
This strikes me as Joss doing an old B grade horror movie, just for the fun of it. A nice, still freaking scary, change of pace.
