What Angel Investigations Did!
Cordelia is not happy because her acting career sucks and her apartment is yucky. So she moves in with Angel. Doyle owes money to some demons and they want to collect or he will die. Angel will take care of those demons if Doyle gets Cordelia a new apartment. They find one. Angel finds the demon and makes a deal to repay for Doyle. Cordelia finds out the apartment is haunted. She tries to scare it. Angel and Doyle find out about the ghost and make Cordelia leave. Cordelia wants to stay, thinking the ghost is punishment for her past bitchiness. They think the ghost is Maude, who the cops think was killed by her son before he took off with his fiancée. And Maude makes people commit suicide. The ghost gets Cordelia to come back and Angel and Doyle go to save her. The ghost attacks Cordelia and she starts to crumple. Angel and Doyle show up just in time. They start the exorcism and can’t complete it. They go to escape, but the demons show up to kill them, because they lied to Angel. Fighting happens and the ghost goes after Cordelia again. After several insults, Cordelia gets her back up. Cordelia trashed the wall in the apartment that she dis not like earlier. Angel beats the demons and sees in the wall a skeleton. Complete with another ghost. Turns out, Maude bricked her son into the wall, to keep him safe forever. Then Maude had a heart attack. Ghost versus ghost happens and Dennis wins. Angel talks to Doyle about the secrets of his past and Cordelia calls her Sunnydale cheerleader friends. She talks about Dennis, and he approves.
Oh look Cordelia is acting out a commercial she didn’t get. This Doyle/Cordelia thing is going nowhere and is not a thing. She’s made it clear it won’t happen, so stop hitting on her jackass. Thank Angel for the exposition on Cordelia. Do they really think there is a lot of non-Buffy fans watching this? And Cordelia’s no good really bad day continues in her still crappy apartment. I hate bugs! Another demon! Saying “Hello Doyle” in a very creepy way. So Doyle runs out of his apartment to get away from the demon he owes money to. Does this mean Cordelia and Doyle are all going to end up living in Angel’s rather spacious building? Yay! Topless Angel from the shower! For all the fans. Cordelia comes to Angel because Doyle didn’t answer. Cordelia to Angel: “I never smell. I didn’t know I could.” This is supposed to be funny right. And we are supposed to think Angel and Cordelia slept together. Cordelia has trophies? And Doyle should really talk to Angel about all this. You know when Angel isn’t being all mopey, he is really kinda smart. Knew that would be the deal. Angel deals with the demon. Doyle finds Cordelia an apartment. This montage is silly with the apartment hunting. Angel gets taken by surprise by the demon? Darn sneaky demon. Isn’t this place waaaay out of Cordelia’s price range? And the walls are possessed by the face of a demon! Angel to demon: “My name’s Angel. What’s yours?” Griff the demon. This demon is such a wuss in this fight. Angel’s threat actually sounds scary and truthful. Time for creepy stuff while Cordelia’s asleep. And Angel asks Doyle an honest question, why do you live this way? Cordelia lives in the poltergeist house. Cordelia to house: “I’m from Sunnydale, you’re not scaring me you know!” Why does she stay? Why not go to Angel’s? Knew ghost was gonna be in the mirror. Ghost Grandma! Cactus is a house warming plant? Flying scissors! Why isn’t she telling them? Die in dripping blood on wall is very not subtle. Cordelia thinks she is being punished? Oh for season one and three Cordelia. Little old lady ghost. This phone call from Angel is so obviously a trap. Gramdma Ghost is all about her son? Angel sees Kate! Thank god for police files with exposition. Grandma Ghost is one judgmental bitch. And what she is saying hits Cordelia hard. Hanging Cordelia is disturbing. Angel sure has read a lot of psychology. Now Cordelia is falling apart. Demons at the door. The demon lied? That wasn’t nice! Will the Grandma Ghost take out the demons? That bitch comment really got Cordelia’s attention. I don’t quite buy this revelatory moment. So Cordelia shouted the Grandma Ghost away. Turns out Grandma Ghost bricked her son up in the wall. Then had a heart attack and died. Ghost versus Ghost. But I thought Cordelia shouted Grandma Ghost away? Now Ghost Son takes her away? How many times can a ghost die? So Angel knows Doyle is hiding something. Still wonder how Cordelia can afford this place. Ghost son Dennis is her roommate?
You can feel the gears shifting on this series, course corrections galore. Cordelia getting a real place and a bit of an attitude adjustment was needed, but not believable.
Sense and Sensitivity…
What Angel Investigations Did!
Kate gets all mad that she can’t find mob boss Little Tony, so she goes to Angel for help. Kate’s father Trevor is about to retire as a cop and he sees her at the police station. They have an awkward conversation. Angel finds Little Tony on the waterfront and calls Kate. Against orders, Angel goes and takes down the mobster. Kate gets mad at this. Little Tony gets his lawyers at Wolfram and Heart involved. They complain of Angel’s behaviour and Kate. Angel knows Little Tony is up to something. Kate finds out that because of the way Little Tony was taken in, she and several other cops have to take sensitivity training. At the training, Allan the moderator brings out a talking stick which lets whomever hold it open up. Kate gets the stick. Angel warns her about the hit, but Kate is being all mushy and nice. She also wants him to come to her father’s retirement party. Turns out Allan is using magic and works for Wolfram and Heart. Angel and Kate go to the party and Kate is very open and touchy feely with her feelings. Kate does a speech that makes some cops all emotional. This leads to the cops fighting each other. Angel drops Kate off with Cordelia and Doyle while he goes after Allan. Kate takes off anyway. Angel confronts Allan and is hit with the talking stick. Kate shows up at the police station and all the cops are overly emotional. One cop lets all the inmates out. This attitude infects cops all over the city. Cordelia and Doyle find Angel outside the police station and he has been infected. They get into the station and Little Tony goes after Kate, who is trying to talk to her father. They all end up in the squad room and end up fighting. And the good guys win. After, Little Tony calls Wolfram and Heart and find out they dropped him as a client. The cops blame everything on spiked punch. Kate and Trevor talk and nothing gets resolved.
Looks like Kate is chasing a suspect. And she violently catches him. This mob guy is plenty stupid. And Kate loses it on the loser. So Angel kills another evil giant creature with tentacles by using an enchanted sword. Typical day for him. The humour on this show feels so forced sometimes. And Kate walks in on the middle of a Cordelia rant. Angel must find a mobster. And Angel figures out a tides clue. Kate’s dad is a cop and about to retire. Awkward conversation 101. Pier 39 is definitely a reference to The 39 Steps. And of course Angel is gonna try and stop the mobster. Their is no way a mobster would fall for this. And the look of evil from the mobster to Angel. Wolfram and Hart? Again? These guys have gotta be the big bad this season. Yay fax! These lawyers are slick and evil and slick. And they brought up Angel’s involvement to the cops. Betcha the mobster is gonna kill Kate’s dad. Or Kate’s dad is on the take form the mobster. Kate’s dad is a jerk. Sensitivity training? I don’t think I have ever heard any cops say good things about this. I don’t believe this cop would be this open this fast. Kate is so hitting on Angel. One session with this guy and Kate talks psychobabble? Betcha the psycho guy uses magic. Called it! And he works for Wolfram and Heart! Dad’s name is Trevor. Trevor is very uncomfortable with Kate’s speech. And Kate goes really far here. Really awkward emotional moment here. Trevor calls it with the sessions. The older versus the newer cops debate is about to start. Now everyone is confessing and arguing and now fights are breaking out. Kate plays “drunk” really bad. Cordelia knows about Doyle’s crush, he made a move and she clearly was a no like two episodes ago. Session guy is Alan. Nice try Alan with analyzing Angel. He knows what you are trying to do, and probably has mental defenses against it. All those moments between the cops is soooo touching. This cop is about to die because he let all the prisoners out. So Alan did affect Angel? Cordelia to Angel with his touchy feelies: “He put the whammy on you. You stink of whammy!” Nicey wicey Angel is not funny at all. Angel still beats the mobster up? Even as nicey wicey Angel? How does that work? And Kate shoots the guy as well? I really don’t get the logic here. And Wolfram and Heart again. Spiked the punch? The Sunnydale explanations reach L.A. Trevor shows up and is a jerk. Hope they never bring him back.
Kate has to go and Trevor can go with her. These characters are not bad in concept, but in execution they suck. I will give credit to Cordelia, who you can tell is trying to make her part work.
